USA

Stretching from sea to shining sea (and even beyond), the United States is an immense country with an amazing diversity of landscapes, climates, and regional cuisines. Across the regions, local ingredients offer tremendous variation -- some are indigenous (corn, squash, turkey) but a great many were introduced by new arrivals (wheat, pigs, cattle). Cuisines of the world rarely stand still; they are always evolving. This is perhaps particularly true in the United States, a nation of immigrants. As they moved across the land, settling down in new areas, their food traditions mingled. The local cuisines absorbed and incorporated the new, and together they evolved. Gradually, regional identification took shape, even as ethnic traditions held firm. The United States offers an embarrassment of culinary riches -- a smorgasbord of world cuisines, where the regional mingles with the international. There’s Tex-Mex in Toledo, Szechuan in Schenectady, barbecued ribs in Boston, Mongolian in Minneapolis, Buffalo wings in Boise…and on and on.

Apple-Filled Cranberry Muffins

Reviewed on Jul. 20, 2008 by A.Z.
These were pretty good, everyone loved them. The biggest thing that gives them four starts was the amount of sugar. I cut the sugar back to a sprinkle for the apples and 1 C for the muffins. The juice, berries and fruit made it sweet enough, in my opinion.

Grill Dough

Reviewed on Jul. 20, 2008 by Kassie
Unbelievably delicious! My entire family raved over this, and we will definitely be making this regularly. It was so easy to make; used the Kitchen Aid with the dough hook. My husband did the grilling and my son and I put toppings on, a true family meal! I took others' suggestions and grilled one side, added toppings to it, and returned it to the grill to finish the other side. Brushed on garlic olive oil before putting on toppings. We just did the basics, pepperoni and margherita. Can't wait to experiment with other toppings! Thanks for an awesome recipe, Kristen!

Blueberry French Toast Cobbler

Reviewed on Jul. 20, 2008 by pomplemousse
This really does turn out like a cobbler . . I don't know why I was surprised. It looks like a cobbler on top and if you flip it, lots of blueberries and juice. I didn't top with butter and don't think it really needed it--it was toasty and brown without it. Definitely use the sugar and butter mixture--was a bit tart but still slightly sweet. Apparently not sweet enough for the bf though, bc he added syrup to his. Easy and good. I don't like using two pans for this--only complaint, but it wouldnt' work without the two pans. Thanks.
